Fortune at the top of the pyramid
Why sleeper trains, Chai Point, car sales, and Big Billion Day all point to one inescapable truth
Praveen Gopal Krishnan
Praveen coaches leaders on how to use narratives in their role—be it sales, product or marketing. He’s also the Chief Operating Officer of The Ken, and as a practitioner, he brings actionable methods that leaders can apply in their own business contexts.

I enjoyed the programme and I am consciously making an effort to convert this learning into a habit of storytelling. Kudos to team The Ken, particularly PGK and Ruhi.

Thank you team The Ken for conducting the workshop on ‘narrative thinking’ for our leadership team. Curating business narratives is increasingly becoming an essential skill for leaders and this workshop was a definite step up for all of us ! Praveen Gopal Krishnan and Ruhi Kandhari—brilliant work!

Every Saturday @TheKenWeb sends a weekly newsletter - Nutgraf. Forget about the well-written daily articles, the weekly newsletter is so good that it alone is worth the yearly price for the whole membership

Woke up early by mistake on a Saturday. Now I’m just waiting for @TheKenWeb’s The Nutgraf to arrive in my inbox.

I’ve learnt everything about storytelling from my cat, who is convinced he’s a tiger
I often use examples of things I love in my modules—like Test cricket, Roman history, and science fiction

I spend a lot of time curating the programs for each team in each company so that I can deliver the curriculum with care and create impact. This means that I have only a handful of slots open every quarter. Get in touch to secure a spot.
Enrol NowI often tell people that I joined The Ken because it’s the only job in the world that lets me do three things I’ve always wanted to do. Usually, people have to choose between one of them, but fortunately, I didn’t have to.
First, I love building products—especially if it’s something that’s new and pioneering. I prefer this because this helps me tap into my biggest strength, i.e., to creatively do things nobody has tried before. This is why I joined Myntra as one of its earliest Product Managers at a time when the idea of buying clothes online sounded absurd. I later went to Inmobi to build products that helped us take on global advertising giants like Google and Meta. And now, finally, I work at The Ken to solve the biggest challenge of all—making business journalism into a product.
Second, I love writing—just like everyone else at The Ken. Every Saturday, for the last five years, I’ve hit the inboxes of executives, leaders, and students all over the world with my newsletter, The Nutgraf. I describe The Nutgraf as synthesis—essentially, I look at what’s happened in the week, and make connections about what’s going on, which I try to tell as a narrative story. It’s one of India’s most popular newsletters, and it helps me practice written storytelling, which I combine with data, news, and subscriber surveys. It’s a lot of fun.
Finally, I love teaching—this is why I’ve taught business executives, leaders, product managers, and sales and marketing heads across a range of industries and companies on how they can use narratives in their business for outsized results. This helps me talk to practitioners from a practitioner perspective, which makes a big difference. Oh, also, every year, I take a guest lecture for a core course for students at my alma mater, IIM Bangalore.
