In a world overflowing with health advice, fitness fads, and diets that seem to contradict each other, how do you sort through it all to quickly and thoroughly set a plan for improving and maintaining your health? How do you find out exactly what you need to do to take care of your own physical well-being, as well as that of those you care about?
That’s what The Ken set out to answer by gathering insights from an Olympian swimmer, a visionary healthcare leader, and a no-nonsense liver specialist who constantly challenges medical myths. The deep dive was a three-hour conversation that was more than about what you should do to become healthier, but also why it matters, all backed up by clear perspectives, surprising facts, and refreshing honesty.
The guests were:
- Olympic swimmer Nisha Millet, who is also an Arjuna Award winner and the director and head coach of Nisha Millet's Swimming Academy
- Viren Shetty, vice chairman of the Narayana Health hospital group
- Dr. Cyriac Abby Philips, a hepatologist who is better known as The Liver Doc on social media
Here are a few highlights of the discussion that took place at the Bangalore International Centre in June 2025 with The Ken’s community.
What Is Health?
“Being healthy” holds different meaning for every person, and the three panelists shared their contrasting views. These definitions were rooted in their diverse backgrounds.
Viren viewed it through the perspective of someone who lives and breathes India’s healthcare system, suggesting that being healthy is tied to a shift to wellness and prevention, solving for health at the earliest stage possible rather than solely depending on the treatment of symptoms. Dr. Philips’ view was that it was about achieving practical sustainability in well-being rather than trying out fleeting fads, taking unnecessary medical tests, and buying into what he called myths.
